Configure OS Objects

Extreme Networks devices can reassign users to different user profiles based on several client characteristics:

To modify an existing OS object, select the edit icon and make your changes. To delete OS objects, select the check box and then select the delete icon.

Use this task to configure a DHCP or HTTP OS object:

  1. Go to Configure > Common Objects > Basic > OS Objects.
  2. Select an existing object, and then select Edit, or select Add.
    To delete a selected OS object, select Delete.
  3. Type a Name for the object.
  4. Enter a Description for the object.
    Although optional, descriptions can be helpful when you are troubleshooting your network.
  5. Select either DHCP Option or HTTP Agent.
  6. Select Add.
  7. Select the OS Type from the Select menu.

    If you do not see the OS you need, you can type a new one in the field. For DHCP Option, if you select a default OS types, the Parameter Request List automatically populates with the default DHCP option 55 string. If you add a new OS type, you can create your own parameter request list, which is a number string, separated by commas, that determines the order by which the DHCP client requests specific parameter information from the DHCP server. An example string to detect Windows 7 is: 1,15, 3, 6, 44, 46, 47, 31, 33, 121, 249, 43.

    Because devices use HTTP snooping to learn client operating systems, the OS version string that you provide must match the version that appears in the user-agent field in HTTP request headers. Lists of user-agent strings for most OS versions are available online.

    If you selected HTTP Agent, type a description.

  8. Select ADD.
